Howards was founded in 2005 following the successful merger of Barrington’s and Wood & Co, two well-established and successful Stafford firms of accountants

The combined experience and area of individual expertise that the company now enjoys has been passed on to our clients, who now all benefit from a deeper knowledge base and wider range of professional services.

Matt Bailey

Matt Bailey

Matt is the Managing Director and controlling shareholder of Howards Limited. Matt was born and educated in Uttoxeter. He has been with the practice since January 1993 and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in December 2001. He has vast experience in a wide range of accountancy and taxation matters. Matt currently manages a large client portfolio, which include small owner managed businesses to large multi-national corporates and is well known in the local business community.

Ryan Hudson

Ryan Hudson

Since 1996 Ryan has also worked in two independent practices in Cheshire and Staffordshire, gaining varied commercial experience, and is both ICAEW and ACCA qualified..

He qualified in 2004 and subsequently gained valuable experience at a practice in the Potteries. He started at Howards in 2014 and is working with the directors to use his varied accounts, commercial and taxation experience to evolve the successful traditional approach that the firm employs.

Rebecca Nott

Rebecca Nott

Rebecca enroled with Howards on a graduate training programme and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2007. She has been with the firm for over 13 years and has a strong technical background specialising in audit including statutory audits, client money audits and charity audits. Rebecca has worked with a variety of clients over the years ranging from small owner managed businesses to those in the regulated sectors and large multi-nationals and groups. Rebecca is the Treasurer of a local charity as well as being a season ticket holder at Manchester United and an avid netballer.

Nick Archer

Nick Archer

Nick started his training at a local firm before joining Howards in 2011. He qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2015 with a good all round knowledge and focuses his time on business development and client service. Nick advises a wide range of businesses and individuals and particularly enjoys helping owner-managers make sound commercial decisions. Nick has a young family and loves being a new dad and the challenges that come along with it. He has a keen interest in sport and enjoys playing squash and golf.

Karen Evans

Karen Evans

Karen joined Howards in 2015 bringing with her over 13 years’ experience of processing various pay frequency payrolls within the public, private and charity sectors. She is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) and is able to advise clients on all aspects of Payroll Management. Her knowledge extends to the significant changes in legislation for Real Time Information (RTI) and Auto Enrolment – Workplace Pensions.

Outside of work Karen enjoys spending time with her family, seeing friends and walking Bella – her mischievous Weimaraner dog!

Joanne Austin

Joanne Austin

Jo is the office manager at Howards and has been with the firm for over 29 years. Jo oversees the day to day running of the practice, co-ordinating office operations, procedures and resources to maximise efficiency. She manages a team of administrative and support staff, ensuring that client service levels are high, and she is responsible for credit control. In her spare time Jo enjoys cycling and going to watch rugby.
